Bonjour tout le monde!
This was a very eventful week for us. We got to say goodbye to our incredible district leader who is going back to Ghana, we had our baptismal service for Brother Pancras, and we got transfer letters. Last P-day to celebrate the parting of Elder Tweneboah we had a huge party with our zone where we made a ton of pizza. Pizza is really rare because it is really expensive to make, but we all chipped in and it was delicious! The baptismal service went really really well. The spirit was so strong, and what made me the happiest is that during the quick little tesimony meeting near the end, Pancras and 2 of my other converts all bore their testimonies. As a missionary I don’t know if there was anything that made me happier. I got to see 3 new members of the church bearing very strong testimonies of what they know to be true. That made me super happy. Finally we also got our transfer news. Our happy little apartment got all split up. My companion who is a native french speaker, but has learned english on his mission from his american companions will now be going to serve in the english branch. I am staying and will be receiving another companion from my district. Another congolese. His name is Elder Lubanzila. I am pretty excited! I will now also be the only american and only english speaker in my apartment, so I am super excited for my french to progress a lot in the next few months.
My companion and I had a very interesting conversation with a friend of a member in our branch. He calls himself a philosopher and has studied a lot according to the philosophies of man. He believes in God, but his beliefs were very different than our own. He is interested, but we found out he is interested just to talk and discuss with us and not much farther than that. We talked about the nature of God our Heavenly Father with him. After we explained to him what we believed and testified about god, he started going on and on about how it is impossible to KNOW that God exists and KNOW the characteristics of him. All he said is that is what we BELIEVE and it is IMPOSSIBLE to KNOW. My companion and I didn’t want to argue with him, so we simply testified and explained a little bit and it was at the end of the lesson anyway and we prayed and left. I thought a lot about it and how awesome it is that we can know for certain that God exists through the cannal of the spirit. By the power of the Holy Ghost we can KNOW the truth of all things. That discussion made me remember what Elde Holland said one time. That if he saw Heavenly Father today it would not increase his testimony at all because he already KNEW without doubt that he exists. How does he know? By the power of the Holy Ghost. Each of us can receive a confimation that God exists that is undoubtable proof, but we need to humble ourselves and pray and read the scriptures every day and search for that truth. After a time, we will KNOW with out doubt the truth.
Anyways, that was pretty much my week! Love you guys!!
