Bonjour Everyone!!
It was another special week here in Cameroon. It was a little extra special because we had our baptismal service this week for our amis. The three soeurs or “sisters” are so increadible and were so ready to be baptized. The whole service was so great. I was able to baptize them in the font outside the church. The water was very cold and it definitely surprised my amis and I but it all went so well. Everybody was so happy and I couldn’t stop smiling all day. The most amazing part was hearing their testimonies afterwards. One of my favorite things that they said was that they had been searching and searching their lives for joy. 2 of them are sisters who came to Cameroon because of the war in the Central African Republic. They have been searching and searching and they said that they found it. They found the joy and happiness that they were looking for. That joy comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ and becoming a member of his church. They have had to endure a whole lot in not very much time, but now they have the knowledge and faith to endure the hard times. They now have a support system in the church, and a knowledge that they can turn to our Heavenly Father at any time through prayer and talk to him and ask for help. It was a very special time for all of us that were involved.
I absolutely love being here. I learn so much every day, and I experience so much every day. I can now successfully barter in the market, get a taxi and tell him where to go (there are no street names or addressed in Cameroon so that took a little bit longer), and how to successfully maneuver through my secteur. One day we were walking around a lot and at the end of the day we met up with another companionship in our apartment as we were heading home. It was very lightly sprinkling outside, but all of a sudden one of them named Elder Idumu says we need to get inside or under something now. I was really confused and I thought he was scared of a little rain so we kept walking. He then insisted we get under a balcony so we did and not even 30 seconds later a wall of pouring rain came over us. It came out of nowhere. So we were trapped under this balcony for a while, waiting for it to calm down enough to finish walking home. I don’t know how he knew but he did and im glad too because that was one of the last balconies we could hide under. I saw some of the coolest lightning and heard some really loud thunder. One lightning strike lit up the whole sky and a huge boom of thunder followed nearly immediately. That one was close. I believe we have about a couple weeks left and then the dry season starts. I will be sad when that happens because I have really loved all the weather and then it will be hot and sunny just like back in AZ.
Anyways that was my week. Thank you for all your support. Je vous aime BEACOUP!
Love
Elder Scoffield
