Hey everyone!!
This has been my first full week in the mission field and it has been great. My french this week was alot better than last week and I am able to understand and talk to my companion now which is good because he is an awesome missionary who has taught me alot. This week we invited our first investigator to be baptised, she was soo happy and we set a date for the 14th of november. We have a few more investigators that we will invite this week so hopefully that goes well. The people here are incredible. Everybody here loves God and Jesus and it is definitely not a difficult subject to talk about, which has led to a lot of new investigators. I am becoming closer with the members in my branch which has been really fun for me. I am still Elder Scoffield from prison break but if it helps them remember my name then great. We played soccer today for pday as a zone district vs district and it was so awesome. We went to this park in the wealthier part of town to play, the whole court was sand and the goals didnt have nets but it was so fun. The food here is great. one of these days Ill send a picture of the foufou. I do have one request. If anyone wants to send me some creative and tasty ways to cook white rice that would be great! I have learned to cook alot of things here because we make all of our meals, but it would be awesome if our white rice could have some variety, so if you have some good ideas with simple ingrediants that I could find here send them to me please! I will be very grateful!!
I learned alot from my companion this week especially how to deal with contention. We were teaching a few lessons this week and a family member or someone walking by would interupt and spend 30-40 minutes explaining to us why our church was wrong, I was quite confused because sometimes its difficult for me to follow really animated French, but I watched my companion sit there and listen, each person would finish at one point and give us opportunity to speak. My companion used that time to testify of the spirit and how it can not dwell in an environment of contention and he would calmly ask if we could teach in an environment where the spirit could be present. He also used the time to testify of the truthfulness of our message and I had a chance to testify. I have felt the spirit stongest in those moments and I know those that were just yelling at us felt it too because we now have 4 more appointments set up for those who want to hear more. Moral of the story is be patient and let the spirit do the work, we arent on a mission to convince people of our message, we are on a mission to bring the spirit to them and let it do the teaching. I am grateful for my companion and the absolutely incredible chance I have to be here! Its hard work everyday but it is so worth it.
Love you guys!!
